When Was Simon Gerrans Born? posted by Cycling

Born May 16, 1980, Simon Gerrans is a road bicycle racer from Australia. Presently, he is riding for Orica-GreenEDGE, which is Australia's UCI Pro Tour team. Gerrans has won the Australian National Road Race Championship twice, and the Tour Down Under race three times. In Tour de France of 2013, his team won the event and he won the yellow jersey for Stage 4.

Gerrans was introduced to cycling by his neighbor, Phil Anderson, who is a Yellow Jersey winner. Later, Gerrans went on to earn the scholarship for Australian Institute of Sport. In 2002, he came fifth in senior division of Australian National Road Race Championships and won the title for under 23. In 2003, he went to Portugal to train with Carvalhelhos-Boavista team, and then trained with the AG2R Prevoyance team. In 2008, Gerrans won his first victory in the Tour de France by winning stage 15.

In 2009, Gerrans joined the UCI Professional Continental Cervelo Test Team; however, he was not included to compete in the Tour de France for that year. In 2010, he joined Team Sky and was selected for Tour de France, but crashed in Stage 8, and broke his arm, which made him withdraw from the race. In 2011, Gerrans won the Danmark Rundt, and came third in the Amstel Gold Race. In 2012, Gerrans won the national road race championship for the first time, and in the same month won the Tour Down Under as well.

In 2013, Gerrans had many victories in Europe, after winning the Tour Down Under. He was third in the Amstel Gold Race, and he won the sixth stage in Volta a Catalunya. He won the first-stage honors in Tour of the Basque Country, and came tenth in the Liege-Bastogne-Liege. In 2014, Gerrans has won the Australian National Road Race and the Tour Down Under.

Radio Shack is going to sponsor Lance Armstrong's new cycling team.  Now, he will be the main man and have a year to win the Tour De France.  Radio Shack will not only sponsor Armstrong's cycling team, but any marathons, triathalons, etc he might do during the next year. 

This is a smart move for Radio Shack.  They have lost some of that iconic American image they use to have.  Best Buy, Circuit City and stores like that have popped up everywhere in America over the past 20 years.  A name like Lance Armstrong will get them a lot of attention.  And, should Lance win the Tour, they look like geniuses.

After todays (Stage #7) there's no doubt in my mind that LA will be the Best SD of the Tour in the last 15 or 20 years. It was amazing seeing him satying close to the front and looking really good after more than 3 years without the Mountain stages at the Tour. There's also no doubt that Astana is the strongest team in the Tour history. I will predict that Astana will get  3 of the 3 podium positions in Paris. But AC will win by a significant margin. Any takers? There's no way LA will beat AC on 2009.

Before you jump to make non-educated conclusions, read carefully and keep your feelings away.

When Lance won his first TDF he was 27 years old. Alberto won his first at 25.

Lance's team in 1999 was a group of outcasts, Alberto is part of the best cycling team in the circuit.

Lance's teammates were a great group of kids doing what they love, riding with no preassure. Alberto's teammates are an extremely talented group of stars. In any other team, they would be TDF contenders, and I would not be surprised if more than 2 of them make the podium.

Lance was a good climber, better Time trial rider. Alberto is a Great climber and getting better at the TT.

Just with that information I know, if he stays healthy he will we the winner of The TOUR until 2015.

My family replaced my Garmin 305 with a 705. I was looking forward to its mapping ability and more reliable ANT+ telemetry. The Garmin fails on both as upgrades.

Mapping: The base map in the 705 is too coarse to be useful for cycling. It only includes major roads. Even at that, the fidelity on the roads is so coarse that I appear to be off the road most of the time. It looks like I keep missing the road and crossing it like a drunk who cannot pass a field sobriety test—I was going to say, like a novice who can't hold a line, but even a novice goes straighter than the 705.

By that fact that it only includes major roads, it has no ability to route on back roads. The map is useful for getting your bearings when you're lost, but the 305's ant trail map was only slightly less useful for that—it had no towns or labels. The map is useful to pointing you in the direction of your destination, but you still have to hunt for appropriate roads unless you like going on major roads. 

ANT+ telemetry: the 705 acquires the connection to the devices much better than the 305 did; however, it still has random erratic days. Look at my HR on motionbased ( recovery ride bad hrm). Look for HRM in the description. From what I can tell, the HRM loves to show very high readings when I'm cold. I don't know if it's a galvanic skin response tricking the reading, a weak contact causing it to boost the signal and adding significant noise, or what, but it's useless when I'm shivering.

The 705 is faster at acquiring the satellite lock—it seldom takes longer than 30 seconds whereas the 305 often took up to 5 minutes. It also acquires the connection to the sensors before starting the ride; so, you at least know if it found them.

A big thanks to everyone who participated in the "Inbound Link Contest".  We have a winner!  A big congratulations go out to Marija.  Thank you for all your hard work on this.  While we had a lot of people participate, Marija was able to win with only 4 links!  So it wouldn't have taken a lot to win this contest!  We'll be having another contest soon so stay tuned.

Inbound link contest - Win $100! posted by Earn Money Blogging

To try and motivate our bloggers to get inbound links we're going to have a contest to see which blogger can get the most inbound links to their blog. The contest begins now and ends July 31st, 2008. Or offer to exchange links with them by writing a quick write up of their site and a reciprocal link back to them. Some webmasters will be happy to add you to their blog roll even if you don't give them a link back (which is ideal) but some may want you to link back to them - you can easily do this with a quick blog entry on your blog about their website.
